The Crowne Plaza Charlotte Executive Park completed a $10 million, year-long renovation that puts the hotel at the forefront of a brand renewal by Crowne Plaza parent company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). The hotel is located at 5700 Westpark Drive, off Tyvola Road near the intersection of I-77. Atlanta architectural and interior design firm designONE studio reimagined the 18-story, 228,000-square-foot property in a neutral palette with subtle sparkles, utilizing natural materials of stone and reclaimed wood, metal accents and seating areas throughout the lobby and restaurant/bar. Multiple televisions and complimentary high-bandwidth Wi-Fi are now available in the common areas. The property has 18 meeting rooms that account for 15,500 square feet of event space, the largest of which has a capacity of 1,200. Executive chef Michael Cowan oversees the hotel’s revamped restaurant, Food For Thought, focusing on farm-to-table and locally sourced ingredients with a Southern twist to ensure the freshest and highest quality ingredients in every dish. Cowan’s experience includes the Omni San Francisco and the Boathouse II restaurant in Hilton Head, S.C. The Crowne Plaza Charlotte Executive Park is owned by Marathon Asset Management of New York, which purchased the former Marriott property in November 2012. In June 2013, Marathon retained Atlanta-based Valor Hospitality Partners to manage the property and oversee the renovation and subsequently reflagged the hotel as a Crowne Plaza.
